Synopsis

FAREWELLS Knowing that she would be leaving for her homeworld soon, Karen Starr decided to spend the last evening at goodbye parties, much to the dismay of her friend and partner Helena, who spent the evening in. Karen insists that when they get back to their world, she will stop partying and focus on helping. If the world they saw glimpses of is any indicator, Earth 2 has been at war for years and Karen's cousin Kal has gone bad. When they get back, it may just be her and Helena who are prepared to fight for good. Helena reminds that they don't have to go back. That place stopped being home to her when everyone she loved died there.  They are interrupted by one of Karen's lawyers who announces that he has made the amendments she requested to her will, and the bequest to underage genius Tanya Spears, whom Karen feels has earned her respect, not to mention the efforts that her mother Somya had made on Karen's behalf. With the papers signed, Karen dumps a pile of letters in the man's hands explaining that they are for people she was close to, should she fail to come back.   As this is their last day, Helena insists that they take the time to enjoy it. She had enjoyed the safety of this world, where she could do some good by saving a life or two at a time without having to worry about Apokolips. She worries that even if she does get back, it won't be long before she is dead and buried next to her parents. Karen promises that she will protect Helena as long as she lives, and reminds that Helena is no slouch when it comes to a fight.   Elsewhere, DeSaad senses how close Karen and Helena are to getting back to their world, and he hopes to follow them, believing that it will give him a chance to get back to Apokolips and Darkseid. He sneaks up on Tanya Spears in the lab and intends to use her to get to the other side. He approaches her, knowing that she holds some kind of hidden power, and she recognizes him from the attack on the bridge.   Karen hears Tanya's scream, and instantly grabs Helena up and flies to the lab. She arrives in time to see DeSaad with Tanya locked in his grip. She punches him until he releases the girl and then she orders Tanya to open the portal, swearing that he will not spoil their chance. She punches him through the ceiling and as the portal opens, she warns Tanya to close it behind them with the promise of a surprise for her soon. Cautiously, Karen and Helena step through the portal and begin tumbling between dimensions.   Upon landing safely on their homeworld, they find it is not very accommodating anymore. It is engulfed in flames.
